I remember the ‘easy days’ when I just breast feed my baby and didn’t have to bother about if they were getting all the different nutrients. Or even when I used to mesh all the food in a blender and feeding him. Now that he is older and eating on his own he picks and chose what to eat and he doesn’t like green food, even though ironically his favorite color is green, which I tried to point out with no luck. Apparently just because he likes the color doesn’t mean he will put it in his mouth.
So the top three hacks are as follows
1. Keep reintroducing foods, studies show that a toddler needs to be reintroduced to foods many times before getting use to it. I put spinach on my sons plate for about a week and half before he started eating the stems of the leaves and now he eats the whole thing. At first he would try it then spit it out then try it again several days later and spit it out, but eventually he learned to like it. Please don’t force your child to eat vegetables because studies show that as adults s/he will most likely end up making poor food choices since s/he relates vegetables to bad memories.
2. Teach them how each vegetable will make them grow and specifically how each vegetable will help. I found this method very helpful personally and even made an ebook and told him the story of the vegetables and how each vegetable helps each part of his body. My biomedical /nutrition background of course helped a lot here. I know not everyone has this background so if you are interested here is a link to the ebook.
3. A method that has been studied by the University of Minnesota is giving them veggies while you are cooking dinner as a snack because at that time they are hungry and when they are hungry they are up for anything hehe. Personally I haven’t tried this but it has had 11k shares from the military wife blog so it must be working. I haven’t tried it only because I am thinking it might spoil his appetite and he might not eat the rice and chicken later. Also a combination of the first two methods have worked wonders for me so I didn’t need any more help, but since this method was so popular I thought I would tell you about it since it could help you out.
Happy mothering 😊
