You are standing in line to buy tickets or sitting at home going through Netflix and wondering what film is a good choice for a date. Well I can tell you that science says it’s best to choose a horror movie if you are looking to get closer to your partner. There is the obvious reason that you two would most likely cuddle, but there is also another reason.
During a scary movie your brain releases chemicals called Dopamine and Serotonin. These same chemicals are the ones that get activated when you fall in love. So in this case of you two watching a scary film together, it strengthens the bond you have with your partner a little bit. Granted it’s just a little bit, but still it’s not bad for the short time spent watching a movie in my opinion.
This is of course useful info for couples that have known each other for years and couples that only have known each other for a short amount of time as everyone would like to improve their relationship and gain an even stronger bond than the one they had before.
This research reminds me of a study I read a while back, it found that couples that did a scary activity together such as crossing a very high wooden jungle bridge felt a stronger connection than those that experienced a non- scary date such as for example dinner at a restaurant. This happened probably because of the same factors as mentioned before with watching a horror movie.
BUT please don’t have high hopes and expect sparks to fly and to proclaim your never dying love for each other, remember it only makes a little difference-yet why not give it a try if you are looking for movie suggestions anyway 😉
